Dochula Pass: One of Bhutan’s Most Scenic Stops
Dochula Pass is one of the most well-known mountain passes in Bhutan, sitting at an altitude of 3,100 metres. Located on the road between Thimphu and Punakha, it is a stop that most travellers will pass through, but it is far more than just a viewpoint.
On a clear day, it offers wide views across the Himalayan range. On a cloudy day, it feels quieter, almost atmospheric, with mist moving through the trees and prayer flags.

The 108 Chortens
The most striking feature of Dochula Pass is the collection of 108 chortens, known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens.
They are arranged across the hillside in neat rows, creating one of the most recognisable scenes in Bhutan. Built in honour of Bhutanese soldiers, they hold both cultural and historical significance.
Walking around them gives you a sense of the scale of the site, as well as its importance.
Views of the Himalayas
On clear days, Dochula offers views of some of Bhutan’s highest peaks.
