Historical Background
Gangtey Monastery was founded in the early 17th century by Gyalse Pema Thinley, a grandson of the Bhutanese spiritual leader Pema Lingpa.
It is one of the main centres of the Nyingma school of Buddhism in Bhutan and has remained an active monastic institution for centuries.
